Procedure

Dissolve caffeine in hot water. Weigh remaining Phase A (glycerin, green tea extract). Sprinkle xanthan gum.

Weigh Phase C (Olivem 1000, CCT, almond oil, cetyl alcohol, shea butter).

Heat both to 75C.

Pour Phase C into Phase A. Blend for 5 minutes.

Cool to below 40C.

Dissolve menthol crystals in a small amount of CCT or oil.

Add Phase D (niacinamide, panthenol, dimethicone, menthol solution, grapefruit EO, Vitamin E, preservative).

Check pH (5.3 - 5.8). Adjust.

Pour into sterilized jars or tubes. Label and date.

Tips & Notes

•Target pH: 5.3 - 5.8.
•Caffeine is water-soluble and must be dissolved in hot water first.
•Maximum caffeine solubility in water is about 2% - do not exceed this.
•Grapefruit EO is phototoxic-label must advise against sun exposure after use.
•This formula is advanced due to multiple actives and the menthol dissolution step.
