Document a formula trial

What you will accomplish

Add the trial observation to Formula notes, then intentionally create a formula-history entry with a meaningful description of the decision.

This record is evidence for review. It does not automatically grant QA approval or release the product.

Before you start

• Use a Pro plan or higher for formula version control.
• Confirm you are editing the formula used for the trial.
• Gather the trial identifier, observation, measured results, and next decision.

Record the trial observation

1. Open the formula record.
2. Select Edit Formula.
3. Find Formula notes.
4. Enter the trial observation in Additional Notes.
5. Select Save Changes.

Keep the note concise but traceable: identify the trial, record what you observed, and state the next decision. Do not use the note as a substitute for a controlled sample or stability observation when those records are required.

Preserve the intentional change in history

1. Choose Save as new version in Save Formula Changes.
2. Enter a specific Change description (optional).
3. Select Save as New Version.

Choose Update current version only for a minor correction that should have no version history entry. It does not preserve a new trial snapshot.

Check your work

• Confirm Formula notes shows the trial observation on the formula record.
• Open Version History.
• Confirm the new version shows the change description.
• Confirm the prior version remains available for comparison or restore.

If something does not look right

• If version creation reports that an upgrade is required, confirm the account has Pro-or-higher access to Formula Version Control.
• If the note changed without a new history entry, check whether Update current version was selected.
• If the wrong formula was updated, stop and compare version history before making another change.
