Start a stability study

What you will accomplish

Start a stability study from a formula or completed batch, connect the sample when needed, and record scheduled observations for pH, viscosity, appearance, packaging compatibility, and other reviewed checks.

This record is evidence for review. It does not automatically grant QA approval or release the product.

Before you start

• Use a Pro plan or higher for stability testing.
• Prepare a non-archived formula or a completed batch.
• Decide whether to use a reviewed protocol or Custom Setup.
• Prepare an existing sample or the quantity and storage details for a new stability sample when the study needs one.

Start from a protocol

1. Open Start a stability test at /stability-tests/new.
2. Leave Setup Method on From Protocol.
3. Choose Test Batch or Test Formula under Test Type.
4. Select the source record.
5. Choose one entry under Select Protocol.
6. Select Start from Protocol.

The protocol supplies its duration and storage conditions. The current protocol action connects a formula or batch; use Custom Setup when a primary sample must be linked during setup.

A protocol can store its own checkpoint list, but the current study-creation and observation-suggestion flow does not apply that list. Formuley suggests observations from its standard sequence: Day 0, Day 1, Day 3, Day 7, Day 14, Day 21, Day 30, Day 45, Day 60, Day 90, Day 180, and Day 365. After those checkpoints are recorded, the next suggestion is 30 days after the latest observation. Treat these as organization prompts; the responsible reviewer decides whether the schedule and methods suit the product.

Start a custom study with a sample

1. Open Start a stability test at /stability-tests/new.
2. Choose Custom Setup under Setup Method.
3. Choose Test Batch or Test Formula under Test Type.
4. Select the source record.
5. Choose an option under Sample Under Test.
6. Choose the Primary Sample when using an existing sample.
7. Enter the quantity when creating a stability sample.
8. Choose the sample storage location.
9. Enter the Start Date.
10. Choose the Target Duration.
11. Choose the Storage Condition.
12. Enter the study context in Notes (optional).
13. Select Start Stability Test.

Custom studies use the same standard observation suggestions, beginning at Day 0.

Record each scheduled observation

1. Open the stability record at the scheduled checkpoint.
2. Select Add Observation.
3. Confirm the date and day number.
4. Enter the pH Reading when measured.
5. Enter Viscosity when measured.
6. Record Color, separation, odor, and texture findings.
7. Record the packaging compatibility result.
8. Choose the Overall Assessment.
9. Select Save Observation.

Use the observation fields and notes as the study evidence record. The current stability workflow does not provide a dedicated evidence-file upload control.

Check your work

• Confirm the study shows the intended formula or batch.
• Confirm Sample Under Test shows the expected sample when one was linked.
• Confirm the observation appears in the Observation timeline.
• Confirm pH and parameter trends use the values entered at each checkpoint.
• Review warnings and failed observations before a human reviewer changes the study status.

If something does not look right

• If access is denied, confirm the account has Pro-or-higher access to stability testing.
• If a batch is missing, confirm it is completed.
• If a formula is missing, confirm it is not archived.
• If no sample matches the selected source, issue or connect a sample to that formula or batch first.
• If Formuley reports that the source needs a workspace, assign the source record to a workspace before creating a stability sample.
