Overview
AI Deformulator helps you reverse-engineer a product label into a working formula draft. You paste an INCI list, and Formuley estimates ingredient percentages, assigns likely phases, and highlights regulatory flags for review.
This feature is available on Pro and above.
- Go to Formulas in the sidebar.
- Open Deformulate INCI List.
- You will land on
/formulas/deformulate.
Step 1: Paste the INCI List
In the first step, paste a comma-separated INCI list exactly as it appears on the product label.
- You need at least 2 ingredients to start analysis.
- You can add an optional product name and product category.
- Turn Refine with AI on for deeper estimation using ingredient-function patterns and usage heuristics.
Step 2: Run Analysis
Click Analyze. Formuley processes the INCI order and generates estimated percentages for each ingredient.
Step 3: Review and Edit Estimates
In the review table, you can inspect and edit each estimate:
- Estimated % for each ingredient (editable).
- Confidence level (
High, Medium, Low).
- Phase assignment (
Water, Oil, Emulsifier, Cool Down, Active, Fragrance, Preservative, Other).
- Regulatory flags where applicable.
Formuley also shows the running total. Aim for a total close to 100% before saving.
Step 4: Check the Summary
The summary step provides:
- Ingredient counts above and below 1%.
- Product-type summary.
- Regulatory notes and flagged ingredients.
- Warnings and an estimation disclaimer.
Step 5: Save the Result
From the save step, you can:
- Save as New Formula to create an editable formula record.
- Import & Map Raw Materials to open the import wizard and map materials to your raw material library.
After saving, open the formula in the builder to adjust percentages, add method steps, and finalize production-ready details.
Important Notes
- Deformulator output is an estimate, not an exact composition.
- INCI order provides strong clues, but exact percentages are proprietary.
- Always validate with your own formulation standards and regulatory requirements before production.
Tips
- Add product category context (for example, cream, serum, or cleanser) to improve phase assumptions.
- Use Refine with AI for better first-pass estimates.
- After saving, run compliance and cost checks before batching.
