Control student AI and instructor help

Formuley Edu has two separate school-wide controls: Student AI access and Ask your instructor. A school administrator sets the school-wide position. An instructor can then make an individual assignment more restrictive. Neither control changes who can sign in as an instructor or who makes the final assessment decision.

Turn student AI on or off for the school

1. As a school administrator, open school Setup → AI policy. If Setup is not in the top navigation, look in All tools.
2. Open Adjust AI policy.
3. Select or clear Student AI access (school-wide) and choose Save AI policy.
4. Reopen the page and check the saved setting before telling instructors or students it has changed.

When this is off, students cannot start new AI coaching requests. Their earlier work remains available. Instructor AI and repeatable, non-AI formula checks can remain available. Students can still read coursework, work on formulas, submit assignments, receive instructor feedback, and use enabled instructor help.

When this is on, student AI is still limited by the school's other policy settings and by each assignment's coaching mode. AI does not grade, approve, certify, or replace instructor review.

Turn new “Ask your instructor” requests on or off for the school

1. On the same AI policy page, find Ask your instructor.
2. Select or clear Allow new requests.
3. Choose Save instructor-help policy and confirm the page shows the new state.

When this is off, students cannot start new assignment-help requests. Existing threads and instructor replies remain available. Instructors can still sign in, teach, review submissions, return feedback, and post class announcements. This is not a switch for instructor accounts or assignment review.

Set the rules for one assignment

As an instructor, open the class, choose an assignment, and edit its details:

• Assignment AI coaching mode: Choose Disabled, Concept only, Socratic questions, Evidence review, or Open practice, then Save Details. The school can set a stricter limit; choosing a more open mode here never overrides a school-wide restriction.
• Allow new “Ask your instructor” requests for this assignment: Clear the checkbox to stop new questions for this assignment, or select it to allow them when the school-wide control is also on. Save the assignment details.

Check the school setting shown beside each assignment control. If it says the school has turned a feature off, changing the assignment setting will not turn it back on.

Changing these settings does not delete earlier work, guidance, or instructor feedback. If a student still sees an action that should be unavailable, refresh the assignment and confirm both the school and assignment settings.
